XFit is “constantly varied, functional movements executed at high intensity.”
Constantly Varied.
We train across a broad range of modalities (gymnastic/body weight movements, cardio, external load weights) in order to achieve total fitness. You will see “benchmark” WODs but you will not see the same workout twice! Each WOD (workout of the day) will work the full body. You will not see isolated movements like gym-goers of typical of big format gyms.
Functional Movements.
The XFit movements we execute are “natural”; that is, they are variations on how your body was designed to move. These types of movements are essential to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Think about your everyday use of some of these movements – Everyone should know how to properly squat, bend, lift, pull, etc.
Therefore at Hawkestone Fitness we help ensure that you are doing these movements correctly, and we train these movements in a way that will help you in your everyday life, and help you build strength to perform them with power and efficiency in a workout.
High Intensity.
XFit strives to “move large loads, long distances, quickly”. The goal is to maintain, during the WOD, the highest relative intensity you are able to give that day.
As with any other types of physical demands, the amount you are willing to give equals the amount you should expect to get from a XFit workout. Workouts are measured by objective criteria like time, weight lifted, repetitions, or force, instead of repetitive “body part splits”.
How does XFit define Fitness?
The XFit definition of fitness is “increased work capacity across broad time, age and modal domains”. CrossFit trains the 10 general physical skills in order to increase work capacity:
- Accuracy
- Agility
- Balance
- Coordination
- Cardio-respiratory endurance
- Flexibility
- Strength
- Stamina
- Power
- Speed
Fitness in XFit also pertains to nutrition. XFit advocates eating “REAL FOOD” in healthy, balanced proportions. Check out:
